How Much Does Rodent Removal Cost?

National price ranges from published industry sources, with the basis each figure is measured on.

How much does this pest control job cost?

Rodent removal is estimated nationally at $395 per job (HomeAdvisor), with mice specifically at $150 to $550 per job (This Old House), and rodent exclusion priced as its own job at $200 to $600. These are national estimates from published sources, not a PestChief quote. Only the company you hire can price your home.

Per job for removal, exclusion and wildlife work, per animal for trapping, per inspection, and per job for dead animal removal. Each table row states which applies.

What does rodent work cost by scope?

Rodent pricing splits into two very different jobs: removing the animals that are already inside, and closing the building so more cannot follow. Every figure below is a national estimate from published sources, with the basis stated in the row, and none of them is a PestChief quote.

Rodent and wildlife cost estimates by scope of work. Every row states its basis: per inspection, per job or per animal.
ScopeTypical cost and basisWhat it includes
Rodent inspection$75 to $200 per inspectionUsually deducted from the total if you proceed
Rodent removal, national average$395 per jobHomeAdvisor national average, within a published range of $189 to $655. Locating activity, trapping and removal
Mice specifically$150 to $550 per jobThis Old House, average $350
Trapping$50 to $75 per animalWhere the company charges by the animal rather than the job
Rodent exclusion, standard scope$200 to $600 per jobSealing the entry points found during inspection
Wildlife removal, overall$198 to $636 per jobHomeAdvisor, average $402
Raccoon$400 to $600 per jobRemoval and entry point work
Squirrel$200 to $600 per jobRemoval and entry point work
Bat exclusion$230 to $8,000+ per jobOne-way devices and roofline sealing, scope dependent, timing restricted by season
Bat guano cleanup$500 to $8,500 per jobRemoval of contaminated material and disinfection
Dead animal removal$150 to $250 per jobLocating and removing a carcass from a void

Where a row shows a single average rather than a range, that is because the publishers cited price it as a single national figure. Published sources differ on these numbers, so each figure above is attributed to the one publisher that states it rather than blended across several.

Why is exclusion priced separately from trapping?

Trapping is pest control labor. Exclusion is construction labor: cutting and fitting metal, screening vents, rebuilding soffit and fascia, capping chimneys and sealing penetrations. They are quoted separately because they are different work, and only the second one stops the problem recurring. Published national sources put standard-scope exclusion at $200 to $600 per job, separate from the removal itself.

If a quote includes trapping but no exclusion, ask what happens when the next rodents follow the same scent trail through the same gap. The EPA guidance on rodenticides also points toward keeping rodents out rather than relying on repeated baiting.

What drives rodent removal cost up?

Five factors move the number more than anything else, and four of the five are about the building rather than the rodents.

  • Number and height of entry points; roofline work needs ladders or lifts
  • Construction type: brick veneer, stucco and tile roofs take longer to seal properly
  • Contamination level, which determines whether sanitation and insulation work is needed
  • Species; roof rats and bats require roofline work rather than ground-level sealing
  • Whether a warranty on the exclusion work is included

What do these figures not include?

A trapping or exclusion price covers that scope and nothing beyond it. The items below are quoted separately, and published national pest control sources do not price most of them, so no estimate is shown here.

  • Attic or crawlspace sanitation after a rodent infestation, which is quoted job by job
  • Insulation removal and replacement, which is an insulation contractor price rather than a pest control one
  • Repairs to chewed wiring, ductwork, drywall and plumbing lines
  • Roofing, soffit or fascia rebuilding beyond the sealing itself
  • Odor treatment and deep cleaning after a carcass is removed
  • Ongoing monitoring or a recurring plan after the initial work is finished

Where do these numbers come from?

Every figure on this page is a national estimate from published sources, given for planning only. Each one states its basis: per inspection, per job for removal and exclusion, per animal where trapping is charged by the animal, and per job for wildlife and dead animal removal. None of them is a PestChief quote, and PestChief neither sets prices nor performs rodent or wildlife work.

Your actual price comes from the independent local company that inspects your home. It moves with the species, the number and height of entry points, the construction of the building, how contaminated the space is and local labor rates. Only that company can quote you.

These are national estimates drawn from published industry sources, not PestChief quotes. Every figure states the basis it is measured on. The real price comes from the company that inspects your home.

What does this cost you? Nothing.

PestChief is free to the homeowner. The figures above are national estimates from published sources, not a PestChief quote. Only the independent local pest control company that inspects your home can price the work, and that one company contacts you directly.

What does this figure cover, and what does it not?

Covered: the treatment itself, as the published sources measure it, meaning labor, materials and the visits the program includes. A figure quoted per year covers a recurring plan. A figure quoted per visit covers one visit only. The basis is stated next to every number on this page.

Not covered: inspection fees that some companies charge separately, repairs to damage the pest has already done, exclusion work such as sealing or screening, and anything added for difficult access or a larger property. None of these figures is a quote. A quote comes only from the company that inspects your home.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to get rid of mice?

Mice are estimated nationally at $150 to $550 per job, averaging $350 (This Old House), against a rodent removal national average of $395 per job (HomeAdvisor). Exclusion to stop reinfestation is a separate job estimated at $200 to $600. These are estimates, not quotes.

Why is rodent exclusion priced as its own job?

Rodent exclusion is priced as its own job because it is construction work: cutting and fitting metal, screening vents, rebuilding soffit and fascia and capping chimneys, often at roof height. It is also the part that prevents the problem returning, which is why it is quoted and priced separately from trapping.

Is attic insulation replacement really necessary?

Attic insulation replacement is necessary when insulation is saturated with urine and droppings or heavily compressed by nesting. Contaminated insulation holds odor that attracts new rodents and loses the insulating value you are paying for. It is an insulation contractor price rather than a pest control one, so ask for it as a separate quote.

Does homeowners insurance cover rodent damage?

Most policies exclude rodent damage as a maintenance issue, though some cover sudden resulting damage such as a fire caused by chewed wiring. Check your specific policy language.

Is a cheap monthly baiting plan enough?

Bait stations reduce numbers but leave the entry points open, so the population refills. A plan with no exclusion component tends to become a permanent subscription rather than a solution.

How much does bat removal cost?

Bat exclusion is estimated nationally at $230 to $8,000 or more per job, because scope varies enormously with the roofline. Guano cleanup is a separate job estimated at $500 to $8,500. Timing is also restricted during the maternity season when pups cannot fly.

Are these rodent prices a quote from PestChief?

No. Every figure on this page is a national estimate from published sources, given for planning. PestChief does not set prices and does not perform rodent removal or exclusion. Only the independent local company that inspects your home can quote you.

Which pest does this guide cover?

Cost tracks the pest, because the treatment, the number of visits and the licensing required all change with it.

How do you get a real price for your home?

It costs the homeowner nothing. Give your ZIP code and the pest you are seeing, and if an independent local pest control company covers that ZIP code and handles that pest, your request goes to that one company. Only that company can quote a price, once it has inspected your home.
